Flying Journey EP 9

Blog 9: My Human Is Beside Me

Flight: Delta Air Lines DL3733 | Route: Seattle (SEA) → Vancouver (YVR) | Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
Perspective: First-person (service dog)

I am a good dog.
I sit by my human’s feet.
The floor is cold, but I don’t mind.
My human is beside me. That’s what matters.

We are on a plane.
It’s not our first time.
I know the sounds—the hum, the beeps, the voices.
I stay close. I watch. I wait.

My human holds my leash gently.
Sometimes, she squeezes it.
That means she’s nervous.
I nudge her leg.
She smiles. I wag my tail.

People walk by. Some look at me.
I don’t mind. I stay still.
I am working.
I am helping.

The flight attendant brings water.
My human drinks. I do not.
I had water before we boarded.
I am okay.

The plane moves.
My human takes a deep breath.
I rest my head on her foot.
She relaxes. So do I.

I remember when we first met.
She was sad.
I sat beside her.
She smiled.
Since then, we’ve been together.

Now, we travel.
Sometimes, she talks to me.
I listen.
She tells me about home.
About the park.
About the people we’ll see.

I don’t understand all the words.
But I know her voice.
I know her heart.

The plane lands.
My human stands. I stand too.
We wait.
Then we walk.

Outside, the air is different.
New smells. New sounds.
But my human is beside me.
That’s what matters.

We are a team.
We go together.
Always.
